Growing up on a ranch in Colorado, I had no exposure to opera or classical music in general. For Christmas my freshman year in college, my mom asked for an LP of Pavarotti's greatest hits, after seeing him on a PBS special. I wanted to get an idea of what I'd bought, and I still remember carefully slitting the plastic and placing the record on my turntable...and halfway through "Una furtiva lagrima" I fell madly in love with his voice, a one-sided love affair which lasts to this day.
